The Commuter Cars motor company produces on of the most unique electric vehicles on the road today. The Tango is an ultra-narrow sports car that sells for over $100,000 but has already been purchased by high profile celebrities like George Clooney who bought the very first model in 2005.
The Tango is so narrow that it has a shorter width than some standard motorcycles. Two Tango`s could actually comfortably ride side-by-side in one lane of a highway or road. It is compact enough to use only a fraction of a parking spot and can even be parked sideways in some lots. A second seat can be affixed behind the driver`s seat to allow for a passenger to ride in tandem. The vehicles are shipped as a kit which the owner then finishes assembling in a few hours. This also allows for some customization.
The interior is lined with luxurious leather and there is a premium Alpine sound system designed for the car. There will be a second model called the T200, but the release date is not yet known. The T200 will sell for a much more affordable $40,000. After the T200 is released there will also be a T100 models which will cost only about $20,000. The company is currently attempting to build funding before they can begin produce those other future models. The Tango 600 looks extremely flimsy and light at first but it is actually quite well weighted down with a heavy battery pack. It`s low ground clearance also provides stability. The total weight of the vehicle is about equal with the average gas-powered sedan. It is powered by 2 electric motors and an additional generator cart can be towed behind it. It can be plugged into a dryer outlet of a home and reach full charge in 3 hours. In 110 volt outlet it can be charged fully overnight. A 200 amp charger can power it up in under 10 minutes. |
